Normal people would assume your Citric Acid comes from a citrus fruit. They would be wrong...

1893 - Chemist Carl Wehmer discovers Penicillium mold can produce citric acid from sugar.
1917 - Chemist James Currie discovers strains of the mold Aspergillus niger can be efficient citric acid producers.

Yep, your Citric Acid comes from BLACK MOLD fed sugar. The source of sugar is corn steep liquor, molasses, or inexpensive sugary solutions.

 

Should I be worried?

Although Citric Acid is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this doesn’t mean it is good for you.

Side effects may include:
Indigestion
Allergic Reaction
Tooth Decay
